A beast of a costume, but it swishes wonderfully!
Bottom layer: a black spandex high-neck top with long rhinestoned sleeves and one finger hole; black cotton velveteen trained mermaid skirt with a two-tone chiffon gore at front. Mid layer: Black flocked denim bodice, fully lined and front-lacing with decorative laces at the shoulder and detachable shoulder supports. Sewn onto bodice hem is a rhinestoned spandex overskirt with a train. Top layer: Detachable hand-embroidered cotton velveteen lapels/shawl, lined in navy satin.
This secured under the bodice shoulder strap with snaps, and serves to hold out the hanging sleeves.
I used heavy duty thread to sew in armature wire so that the vinyl would keep its shape. This has served me well - each time I unpack the costume, the vinyl has gotten folded up, but it's very easy to straighten them out again.
Covered with the same flocked denim as the bodice, and lined with navy satin. The hanging sleeves are captured between the lining and the fashion fabric.
